Several years ago, I’d look at beautiful photos and admire the amazing-looking baths wishing I could apply it to our home. Fast forward to today, I was able to achieve the bespoke bathroom that I wanted for my family and myself.
Here are 4 tips on how you can make a bespoke bathroom:
1. ✔️Think of a bathroom design theme
In planning a design for your bathroom, it’s important to determine what you really like. The design theme should reflect your personality. Are you a minimalist? Are you someone who likes to bring warmth and comfort? Are you the enthusiastic type and into some bold and vibrant colours?

I have started putting my focus on things that I like, my favourite things, and the items that make me smile i.e. a freestanding bathtub, and bathroom vanity units in monochromatic colours. For my home, I personally picked a modern design theme because I want a clean, structured, and arranged look. Consider your interest and combine it all together then match it with your budget.
Here are some bathroom design themes
- Asian
- Coastal
- Contemporary
- Country
- Eclectic
- Industrial
- Mediterranean
- Midcentury
- Modern
- Rustic
- Scandinavian
- Shabby Chic
- Victorian
- Vintage
2. ✔️ Identify your needs that will match your lifestyle
One of the few things that you should identify is, who are the people that will use the bathroom. Do you have kids at home, the elderly, or even pets? Do you stay indoors often and spend a lot of time at home or are you always on the go and you like to keep yourself
busy? This is how your lifestyle will affect your choices.
If your household is busy, you can have that functional double sink or opt for double basins. If an elderly will use the bathroom, it’s best to design safe spaces for seniors. You have to consider having grab bars and rails, walk-in tubs (so they don’t have to lift their legs) and
make sure there’s adequate lighting.
Perhaps you can have that walk-in shower for your next bathroom remodel whereas despite having a busy lifestyle, you can still achieve a bathroom that can serve as your oasis for relaxation. We all deserve that quiet, alone time.
3. ✔️ Compile Design Inspirations
Once you have determined the theme, particular needs, and budget, it’s time to collect your design inspirations. My favourite sites to draw inspiration for bathroom designs are Pinterest, Instagram, and Houzz.
Set a colour palette or you may pick your favourite colour for your accent wall. Recently, there’s been a rise in the trend of using monochromatic colours like an all white bathroom or white bathrooms with black and gold accents for the fixtures like this bathroom renovation project that we have completed at Wexford, Ireland.

After setting the colour palette, you may gather ideas on the materials. Click this link to see the list of the most common bathroom materials. You might need to hire a bathroom renovation specialist because the workmanship on installing the materials will make or break your bathroom project.
4. ✔️ Design your Bathroom Floor Plan
Determine the size of your bathroom so that you will have better estimates for your bathroom renovation project. Here are some examples of bathroom floor plans for your guidance:

In conclusion, they say you should always find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive. If a sophisticated or modern-looking bathroom renovation will make you happy, then it’s high time to go for it.
