Frequently Asked Questions

get started with your bathroom renovation

How can we help you to get started?

We understand the complexities involved in designing, building and renovating a bathroom. Here are the most common inquiries we have been receiving about bathroom renovation and how to get started.

Lots of variables go into answering this question. They include
â—Ź the size of the bathroom
â—Ź the scope of the renovation (quantity of tiling etc)
â—Ź the layout changing or remains the same
â—Ź the selection budget (entry, medium, or high-end tiles and sanitary ware)
That being said, the typical main bathroom renovation that we carry out would fall into the €9,000 to
€15,000 range if there is one of either a bath or a shower. If there is a bath and a separate shower the
typical range would usually fall somewhere between €12,000 and €18,000.
These price ranges could increase further for very high end features or if a lot of construction is
involved.

Smaller bathroom renovations can sometimes be completed in as little as one week if there are
like-for-like replacements involved and nothing is moving location. Larger bathrooms usually take no
longer than two weeks. If there is other construction work involved (moving walls etc), timelines can
increase further.

We provide a full design, supply and fit service to our clients and this is our recommended
approach as it usually works out more cost effective and we can ensure that the materials chosen
will be compatible with the vision for the room.
However, if you have already purchased materials, we can certainly fit them for you as long as
they are of suitable quality.
Typical elements which you will need to consider when renovating your bathroom include,
Toilet – wall hung or standard
Cistern – concealed or close coupled
Bath – size, shape and style
Bath screen or curtain
Bath filler – overflow filler, wall mounted or deck mounted.
Shower – over bath or separate cubicle
Shower tray – walk in (wet room), raised or low profile
Shower door or screen
Shower valves – concealed or exposed
Vanity unit – wall hung or floor standing
Basin taps
Mirror or mirror cabinet
Lighting
Power outlets – toothbrush or shaver charging sockets
Radiator – towel radiator or traditional
Floor covering – tiles or vinyl
Wall covering – tiles, painted, wood paneling
Accessories – toilet roll holder, towel rail, robe hook

Provided you have an extra bathroom or ensuite that the whole family can use, you usually won’t have
to move out. Even if you don’t have another bath/shower some families choose to stay put if
showering at work/school/gym is an option.

Yes. This usually isn’t a problem but these type of showers usually require a high water pressure.
If your system isn’t already pressurised we can look at installing a shower pump. Please bear in
mind that higher water pressure = higher water usage. This may mean that your existing hot
water cylinder will need to increase in size to cope with the extra demand on hot water. Some
electric showers now also come with a rainfall head option.

Yes, renovations are messy but we do everything we can to minimise the impact on your home.
From covering down all of your floors to daily clean up, our aim is to keep distribution to a
minimum throughout the process.

We will always get a better result if you allow us to do all of the work but if you are a
competent DIYer or tradesperson you can do some of the work before we start on site
(demolition) or after we leave (decoration). Working alongside us while we are on site
would not be possible for insurance reasons.

Yes. If you no longer use the bath or if climbing in is an issue, removing it is a great option.
Removing the bath gives so much room for floor space and storage. Walk-in or wetroom options
are possible with level access (no step) usually being achievable.

Yes, absolutely! Many of our recently designed bathrooms showcase a freestanding bath. You will
need a larger bathroom for a freestanding bath than a standard built in one. Also, many of the
freestanding bath taps require at least 2.0 bar of water pressure in order to function correctly so
a pump may be required.

Yes. Wall niche is very useful since it is easy to clean, convenient and a space saver. Niche’s can
often be incorporated into existing stud walls. If your bathroom has block or concrete walls it will
be necessary to build a stud pre-wall to incorporate the niche. This pre-wall can often also house
a concealed cistern frame for a wall hung toilet.

Yes. A wall-hung toilet basically works the same way as a floor-mounted toilet, except its water
tank is designed to be concealed behind the wall. They provide for clean lines and easy cleaning
of the bathroom floor.

Yes and at the same time, we are here to help you. We will take you through the entire design
process assisting you in selecting elements that will create the main bathroom of your dreams while
meeting your specified budget.

What our Clients Are Saying About Us

We contracted Aidan for the renovation of 3 bathrooms in the house we purchased a few months ago. We absolutely love the designs and final results. Aidan was a great partner through out this renovation as we had a lot going on. He was very accomodating with scheduling, has a great team of professionals making sure that the work is done to the highest standards and to our satisfaction. Once again, many thanks for helping us transform this house into our home.

Really happy with the finished bathroom from Aidan and team. We moved the entrance to the suite and did a complete upgrade to the existing dated bathroom including adding a sliding door, wet room style shower and all new tiling throughout. Aidan recommended all materials based on designs we had in mind getting us excellent value for money and we were very happy with the final result. Excellent quality for a reasonable cost.

I would highly recommend Aidan Kelly Construction. Aidan and his team completed a challenging bathroom renovation in my home, to the highest standard and under a tough timeline. The bathroom was completely stripped and everything was replaced; plumbing, wiring, water heater, sanitary wear, floor and wall tiling, ceiling. No issue or request was a problem e.g. putting up wall tiles in herringbone pattern or the quartz bathroom vanity top arriving not cut for the sink! I love my new bathroom. Thank you for doing a great job.

We had quite a tricky family bathroom refurb in an old house in the city center which involved a complete gutting of the existing ( badly laid out) bathroom, smarter alteration of layout to better suit our needs and upgrade of all specs within including installation of pocket doors, wet room floor installation, complete wall and floor tile upgrade as well installation of modern heated towel rads. Can not speak highly enough of how professional, efficient and helpful Aiden and his team were from the planning stage right through to completion. We were delighted with finished product!

Overall we had an excellent experience with our bathroom renovation. Our bathroom was completely remodelled. It involved a relocation of all existing features and adding new ones too. Including beautiful panelling and moulding around the window, enhancing the space and light. The design is both practical and stylish. Aidan was exceptional from start to finish. He effortlessly resolved the issue with our bespoke vanity unity and resolved problems sourcing our chosen tiles. He completed the job with total professionalism, in time and on budget. The end result is definitely Wow

Aidan was amazing to deal with from start to finish, from planning the layout to pricing and completing the project, Aidan was very honest, open and hands on. The final finish and attention to detail was perfect. I can’t recommend Aidan enough. Our new bathroom has received so many compliments

Aidan totally refurbished our main bathroom in 2019. Having worked with Aidan previously on our double storey extension I had no hesitation in contacting him with a view to carrying out the work. All the work tiling, plumbing ,electrics and built in furniture installation was carried out with complete professionalism. Nothing was too much trouble and there was minimal disruption and mess. There are no problems with Aidan only solutions and I would highly recommend his work.
Ross Kyne
We brought Aidan in to revamp our main bathroom and to tile the fireplace in the kitchen/dinging room. Everything was done very professionally, protective flooring was used and the builders cleaned up after themselves. Delivered on time and in budget.
